Is online gambling legal in Vietnam?

Online gambling is generally illegal for Vietnamese citizens. The Law on Gambling extends to online activities, and the government has been active in blocking access to many online gambling websites. However, the government is also taking some steps to regulate the online gaming market. Recent regulations require foreign online game suppliers to establish a legal presence in Vietnam to offer their services.

This move is aimed at bringing more control and oversight to the online gaming sector, but it does not legalize online gambling for real money. The focus of this regulation is on online games that do not involve betting or wagering. Therefore, while the online gaming landscape is evolving, online gambling for money remains prohibited for the general population, with the exception of the pilot program allowing access to specific licensed casinos.
